A big part of my beat as a newspaper photographer was covering the Whistler Fire Department as they fought various fires throughout the Whistler area. Whistler is a relatively small community and I’d known many members of the fire department for decades, so I got far more access to the fires than most newspaper photographers in larger metro areas.
